Wake

Wake
Wake from your sleep again
Wake from your sleep again
Wild innocent
Awaken
Wake from your sleep again
Wake again
Wild innocent
Awaken
Everything you were had gone
you were no one again
Everything you thought could never end
had ended
Fibres of light adrift in an endless sea
Fragments of life with no identity
It’s great to be here
It’s great to feel the sunlight on my skin
It’s great to see you
You look familiar but then again –
We’ve never met ... have we?

As the Crow Flies

As the Crow Flies
In a dream I was alone
I watched seven crows throwing shadows,
beating their black wings against my window.
And so it was, I spoke their tongue
their animal hearts wild and young enthralled me,
calling me back to Eden and opened my eyes,
as the crow flies ...
it’s not so far as the crow flies.
The garden was awash with flowers,
I spent the silent sunny hours watching,
my eyes like a child unburdened by time ...
But then the shadows fell again,
I heard their cries, my black winged friends,
they came and plucked me from the Earth
carried me high through rushing sky.
And Eden shivered far below
now strange and frozen, cloaked in snow,
And I cried out for my life,
beheld my garden, petrified.
Suddenly it all came clear, the sun was piercing through my fears
I knew then that the gate to the garden isn’t so far
I woke up from their steely claws
And as I dropped they blackly cawed “remember!
‘you were once a child unburdened by time”
As the crow flies
It’s not so far as the crow flies
Ah ooh ...

Should Have Been a Baker

Should Have Been a Baker
Maybe I should have been a baker
Making fresh loaves
Every morning early wake up
Kneading that dough
Everyone relying on the skill in my hands
The passion, the pleasure would be grand.
Maybe I should have made a million
Buying cheap land
Retired when I was still young
With soft white hands
People would come and ask me favours
I could grant them or turn them down
The power, the pleasure, to hold onto
Or spread around
Maybe I should have been a teacher
Taught all I know
Young minds gathered all around me
Like fresh earth to sow
Together we could make a new world
Better than this one we know
With wisdom, and passion and pleasure
Who knows?
La da da de da de da da da da da da ...

Alice (Take the Pill)
05:58

Take the Pill
Alice, take the pill calmly
Will you make your daddy scared of you today
As you fade away?
Colours spiralling outward
From your eyes into the cosmos
Reel them in
Feel the life, a flame within.
Breathe in time with me
Don't become the fear you feel
Fly on until you can see eternity.
Down now into night
Shadows pass your eyes
Like demons grasping for your life
Let them fade, remain in light.
Breathe in time with me
Surrender, drown in me
We have no need to swim when we
Become the sea.
In motion beneath skies
Yet veiled from waking eyes
Between the void and the cloudless sky
Let the struggle end …
Beyond the shadows cast by thoughts
Where no battles need be fought
Behold what you have always sought
Let the struggle end …
From on high look down
To that figure on the ground
She’s limping along
Into her you must return.
But let this spear of light
Enter through her eye
May it give her sight
to recall why she’s alive.
Cos you don’t have to leave
before you arrive
You don’t have to grieve
Just enjoy the ride.

Walter Wendall

Walter Wendall
Walter Wendall walked out on his life one day
Packed all his belongings in a bag
Left his lonely wife, his job with lowly pay
Wrote a note saying I’m not coming back.
‘This act is over, that’s how I choose,
I’m just a guy with nothing left to lose.’
[Wife] Walter when you left I had a dream
We crossed a frozen lake one moonless night
I was trying to tell you how I feel
But you couldn’t hear me from beneath the ice.
But I kept talking anyway
Nothing ventured nothing gained I said
Better live your life before you’re dead ...
Walter went hurtling into his brand new day
It seemed like he had gone right off the edge
[Wife] “The patient smile, the suit and tie, you cast aside
Have you become the man that I once wed?”
I don’t know, my soul is filled with new voices,
‘nothing ventured, nothing gained they say,
better live, don’t waste another day ...’
[Wife] Walter won’t you walk back through my door?
[Walter] I’m coming home, don’t want to roam no more ...

The Cult of More

The Cult of More
Some people can’t abide a day not making hay while the sun shines
Minutes not filled in with doing things are wasted time
But me I see things differently from here where I recline
Ask me to raise my productivity I’ll politely decline
Cos there’s plenty going on right here as I sip my wine ...
Sometimes doing nothin’ is just fine.
Layin’ lookin’ out the window at the sunlight on the tree
Seems to benefit my personal economy
But the bankers and the politicians they do not agree
As they look darkly down upon dreamers like me
Dreamin’ up, dreamin’ up, new ways to be free.
Cos I was blind, now I can see ...
Thought I was fine, thought I was livin’
Keepin’ the wolf away from the door
but all of the time I was just givin’
my energy to the cult of more ...
the cult of more
I can’t afford
the cult of more.
Maybe those masters of the universe they need their wage slaves
Reelin’ in their billions from behind their locked gates
And if you step out of the line they’ll try to make you behave
Chain you to their work ethic then watch you dig your grave
But damn their paradigm you gotta find another way
Democracy is dying and it can’t be saved.
Thought I was fine, thought I was livin’
Keepin’ the wolf away from the door
but all of the time I was just givin’
my energy to the cult of more ...
the cult of more
I can’t afford
the cult of more.
La da de da, la da de da, la da de da ha
La da de da, la da de da, la da de da ha
La da de da, la da de da, la da de da ha ...

Waiting for the Sun

Waiting for the Sun
Under seige from the voices within
you wrest the blade from the assassin
She’s not a stranger, she’s a part of you now
Before you blame her, face yourself.
Through your tears, over your shoulder
you feel her gaze growing colder
But you remember when she smiled like the sun
You were the one then
Now she don’t care
that you’re still there
Caring, trying
Watching, sighing
Loving her
waiting for the sun.
Count the nights since she took to the skies
A bird aflight to paradise
Maybe she found it – maybe not
But here she comes
She’s at the door now
And she smiles like the sun
You are the one now
Cos she can see
that you’re still here
caring, trying
watching, sighing
Loving her
waiting for the sun
Loving her
Waiting for the sun
Waiting for the sun.

Words Are Weapons
05:19
|

Words are Weapons
Careless words cannot compare
to words spoken in spite
But words that wound and seem unfair
seem fair game in a fight.
You like the sound of your voice
when you’re feeling righteousness
I like to list your shortcomings,
I shouldn’t but I must.
Words are weapons, load your threats and
take aim, let the accusations fly.
You talk, I talk, we talk
but what do we really say?
The darkest secrets of our minds
we keep them locked way.
We like to pretend we’re adults
yeah we even look the part
but then our mouths betray us
and the charade falls apart.
Words are weapons, load your threats and
take aim, let the accusations fly.
Now we’re really rocking,
yelled ourselves right to the brink
You’re sounding mean and mocking,
hurling verbal kitchen sinks
You seem to call the chaos
to explode out of the calm
I guess I must like it as much as you
despite the harm.
Words are weapons, load your threats and
take aim, let the accusations fly.
Words are weapons
Words are weapons
Bang bang you’re dead ...

Storm
Now, we have to part. The sun set down my heart
And the tears are running down my face
And although I can’t breath and it’s burning
Something keeps telling me …
To focus my life on my own way
Living each moment, each hour and day
These maps of our living are old and outdated
We need some new tools to help us navigate this …
Ocean of blue, is simply too clear
I see my reflection, my hopes and my fears
This boat of my life, is rocking and swaying
Each time there’s a storm, my heart is praying.

Code

Code © D Weir 2014
The room is cold, devoid of sun, but there you glow
Weaving ecstasy in 1s and 0s.
The kilobytes have woken, now they start to flow
Tonight again, we crack the pleasure code.
And every pixel of your skin sucks electricity
As all your data rushes into me
And conscience yields to bloated choice and breathless beats
The rhythm of desire in tapping keys.
I am an algorithm you’re my slave
To put to work to punish to degrade
But to your touch I’m cold
My flesh you cannot hold
Through me you’ll come to know
The cruelty of code ...
Take the wheel and we’ll go to the cusp of overload
Deep within the hum of the hard drive
Where text is touch and time is lost on these mapless roads
You’re virtual, I’m numb, barely alive.
I am an algorithm you’re my slave
To put to work to punish to degrade
But to your touch I’m cold
My flesh you cannot hold
Through me you’ll come to know
The cruelty of code ...
You are an algorithm I’m your slave
You are an algorithm I’m your slave
The cruelty of code ...
